large family inspiration

Some people think I’m just crazy to be having a 4th child but to me my problem will be stopping at 4! I just love having babies and adore all my own little children who are just easy going, easy to love and of course beautiful (and I can say that because I’m their mum).

Now this photo hasn’t come up well from the paper and I’ll keep trying to get a clearer one, but I had to share this local family with their 7 children selling up their $2.6m+ home. I mean whats not to love…….if you can do it so well and so stylishly (the whole house is hamptons beach style and stunning) then why stop. So no, I’m not going for 7 but let’s just say I’m not saying that number 4 is my last.

I also love photos of anna maria horner’s gorgeous brood – someone else doing the large family thing very stylishly – but I just can’t see her driving the people mover around! Maybe she has all the seats reupholstered in her own fabric ranges! So come out all you large family readers and closet large family lovers, tell me your large family inspiration!!!!

  1. Corrie I absoloutley adore the idea of a large family, especially if you can do it in style as you say!! We currently have 2 children (7 & 6) and are now planning another 2 in close succession! Ideally I would have liked 4 close together but I decided to go back to uni and retrain as a nurse so we had to have a gap. Like you depending on how things pan out, I certainly wouldn’t say never to more babies, they’re just so cute!! Justine xx

  2. Hi corrie, I have commented a few times…my name is Leah, I live in Nyngan NSW which is in the middle of NSW. I have 4 children , 2 boys Jake 13 and Laine 9 and 2 girls Britt 11 and Fallon 7. I would LOVE to have more but after having Fallon I had my tubes tied. All of my kids have had medical problems, Jake and Fallon having the most problems – Fallon still is having medical dramas. They are great now but we have had lots of surgery and about 40 trips to Sydney to the kids hospitals over the years.( 1400km round trip) I don’t think that my maternal yearning for more will ever go away and feel sad there will be no more for us. Emotionally and sadly ,financially 4 was it for us. I have always had to work part time and now the kids are all at school I work school hours which is great because I am home when the bus pulls up at 3.30pm ready for all the after school activities. I miss them being babies ( I had the 4 in 6 years), I miss the car seats in my Kia Carnival, and I miss carting my Maclaren pram around! but I love the new things that come with them being older. My sister has just had a premmie baby and now he is home and healthly I love that he is a “newborn” for a bit longer than normal ! Good luck with your new baby girl, I love reading your blog and seeing your beautiful little kids faces. Love Leah

  3. I’m not up for more myself, but we have friends with 4 girls who went back for #5 and are now pregnant with twins! They are very excited about it :)

  4. my mother was one of 17 children (think Ma and Pa Kettle, not the Duggars) and I think it convinced them all to not have large families :-) None of the 17 have more than 4 kids themselves.

Thanks for sharing pics of your lovely kids, and good luck with number 4.

  5. http://71toes.blogspot.com/

these guys have 5. i think this mum is pretty amazing. as is : Meg over athttp://megduerksen.typepad.com/whatever/

both American, and possibly both LDS? very inspiring!

good on you for thinking big. i am done with 3 :)

  6. I just had number 3 but like you I just don’t want to say that’s it. I am not sure that we will have another one but while I still hve time I like to keep my options open.

  7. I’m from a mob of six with parents who came from seven and eight so we knew about big families.

That said I don’t think I would have gone above four if we had decided to go for more. There is only so much parent to go around.

(hahahahahaha – word verif is ‘lower’)

  8. Hi Corrie, OMG I want that house!!!
And, you know me, hopefully 1 or 2 more heading our way at some point!
    xo

  9. I’m definately a big family fan having five myself. Doing it in style is important for me too so people like anna horner are inspirational but also what about India Hicks and her family of 4 kids living the island life or the Novograzt who have their own design and decor company called sixxdesign they have 7 in tow or just look at Angelina and Brad! Big families are soooooooooooo cool and heaps of joy! I would actually love a number 6 but I fear pregnancy and giving birth! So 5 is great , right!! :)

  10. I am very happy with my 2 but can’t understand why people say that other people are crazy for wanting more. My friend has just had her sixth and they are such a beautiful loving family. I also have friends who have decided not to ever have children. I’d like to tell them that they’re crazy but it’s thier life. I feel so lucky to have be a part of my wonderful little family. :)

  11. Oh, this post is right up my alley! I have 2 little girls & would love at least 2 more but my husband aka the sperm scab says no more. But I think I can convince him to at least have number 3(then I’ll work on getting him to agree to number 4 after that!)!

  12. I love big families, I wanted five kids since I was a kid, but had to stop at 4. Still feels like there should be another one running around. I was really hoping the last one we had would be twins, kick me up to that five. 😉 Didn’t pan out, darn eggs not cooperating. :p

  13. I too have a larger family, after just having our gorgeous #5 9 weeks ago. I am already thinking about #6 in a couple of years, however I am still working on doing it ‘in style’! Our house needs alot of work to be stylish, but we will get there. Some days though I wonder will I ever feel ‘done’ and therefore should we have #6 or just count our blessings with 5 happy and healthy children? Who knows, time will tell. Best of luck and best wishes with #4 Corrie!

  14. Hi Corrie,
I am one of 6. Mum and Dad had my little brother when they were 49yrs old! Growing up in a large family was/is wonderful. You learn patience. You learn to share and support each other. I think we are all good communicators and love a laugh. There is/was always something going on in the family. Don’t think we were ever living in style but Mum was very crafty and resourceful. She still is. I really desperately wanted a large family myself. We have 2 beautiful kids and my husband doesn’t want any more. You are lucky to have a husband who is keen! Here’s a link to another very stylish family of 5 girls… I think you will love this blog… http://thedillspiel.blogspot.com/
    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh :-)

  15. I come from a family of 8 girls. That’s right, there are 8 daughters and no sons. When the youngest was bout 2 my father decided he needed some “boyish” things around and gave the youngest a big tip truck for Christmas.

It’s great to have a large family. I have three at the moment and have always thought that five would be the perfect number. Due to health reasons it can’t happen just yet but fingers crossed that will change.

Good luck with number four! I love reading about you and your Retro Family. It’s lovely to see that family is still important to so many in this world of disintegrating values.

    Thanks for your inspiration.

  16. Another ‘large’ family here, four children – 3 girls and a baby boy :) I love my large family – four is just right for us!

  17. The Aus. government thinks that 3 children is a large family, which is quite amusing. I have four children, but my husband came from a family of 10 – that’s large!

  18. I love that I have been blessed to have 4 children. Medically I was to stop at 2, but the risk was well worth it. I promised my husband no more after 4 and I have had to keep that promise, but how wonderful to have a large family.

  19. Well, I don’t have any children and won’t ever be, but my husband is the youngest of 9 and I can see the appeal of having a large family when they all get together! It can be quite hilarious to watch (although intimidating for me, as I come from quite a small family!!)

He has some great memories of growing up, but I suspect his brothers mostly brought him up as his mum was in her 40s when she had him 9and was probably well and truly over it by then!!).

Good for you for wanting a large family, and I wouldn’t worry about those who wonder how you’ll cope. You know you’ll cope – and you can leave them wondering how you got to be a super-mum!!

  20. Hi Corrie, I actually think large families are making a comeback! Since having our fourth last year I’ve heard of quite a few families expanding beyond 3…I have 2 boys age 8 & 5 and 2 girls age 2 next week & 1 in July! I love our happy home of play & excitement, sometimes it seems like we really only need each other as we’re always occupied by one another, it’s so lovely and I’m sure you create the same environment for your family. Though your little Finn (I have a Finn too, the 8 yr old) will surely be out numbered by his 3 sisters and all things PINK!!! Kate.x.

  21. I love large families…I want 6!! Hubby says I will be lucky to get 3.

  22. Hi Corrie, I am a Mum of 6 gorgeous children/young adults who are now 21yrs down to 10 yrs old. I adored the baby stage and young child stage (easier to get down and play and craft with!). Now I am enjoying the humour and growing intellect of the older ones, though they do present their own challenges of looking for independence at times when I am not ready to give it! I finally knew at no 6 that I’d completed my family. I used to liken it to the door always being a little bit open to another one coming along, but it finally shut. Though that may have had something to do with being 40 when Miss Bee was born.
Enjoy the little addition to your family and I wish you all blessings and joys that a large family brings. Hilary

  23. Hi Corrie, Yes I have four…would have had five and six if hubby would have agreed. All I wanted was twins, so envious of you with twins. Mine are 20, 16, 15 & 11 now, and I just love it. Imagine the big family dinners when they all have families…I cant wait. Big Christmas’ and birthdays & other get togethers. Heaven I say. Good luck to, go for seven like Anna Maria Horner! hehe

  24. Thanks Corrie, for such a great Blog! I have three beautiful daughters ( 4, 2 1/2 and 1) and hubby and I are thinking of having #4 but I’m scared of the pregnancy (each pregnancy got harder and harder) and also the hard work of having three so young plus another baby! Does anyone have any advice on how they coped in the first year with housework, school and still making sure the girls are happy!? Oh yeah, and is there such thing as sleep when you have 4? lol

    Thanks again to everyone.
