another dress for sunday

uh oh I’m setting a dangerous precedent of making new dresses for keira to wear every Sunday! I used a vintage pattern (Style 2652)

vintage inspired quilting fabric and my mum’s very vintage machine because mine totally packed it in yesterday and isn’t working!

Keira loves her new dress and doesn’t want to take it off, always a very good sign! And Finn wanted to get in on the action too!

Best of all, I used a zipper as called for by the pattern. Those vintage patterns love to put a zipper in the back of dresses and rather than make ties (which I would normally do) I put the zipper in!

thank you everyone for your lovely comments on the dress! There is no prize for best dressed little girl at mass but I’d like to think if there was one she’d win. I’d also like to think if there was a prize for getting there early with 3 children under the age of 4 I’d win that too!

  1. Very cute- perfect for this nice weather we’ve been having. When do you whip these things up? Saturday night? xo Meagan.

  2. yes meagan, saturday nights are spent in and hubby usually likes to watch sport and I like to sew! it’s my quiet time!

    Corrie:)

  3. Almost every night is spent in when you have little-ies. Babysitters can make you broke! I’ve been getting into my knitting, blogging or sewing most nights while Big B watches some tv and unwinds. Lucky for me the footy season is over though. That’s what he really loves.

  4. It’s lovely (like all of your sewing!). I saw a very similar dress (toddler size) in Country Road last week – for $50!!! I’m so glad I’ve got a sewing machine. I just need to learn how to sew more than a straight line!

  5. Congratulations n the zipper! Such a lovely little dress, one lucky little girl :-)
    Happy stitching, P

  6. Sweet dress, how lovely & what a delightful model you have. Funny – i only do non machine sewing on our wild Saturday nights in, so i can be with my husband but still crafting!! Last night, amazingly with all 4 at evening parties, we went out for dinner, without having to pay for a babysitter. That has happened twice in 10+ years of parenting, so we jumped at it. Back to machine sewing, as husband is out shopping with eldest child who has to cook dinner tonight (Indian) for homework. Yahoo, got to love that, i have the rest of the afternoon off as they grind up spices. This parenting gig gets better & better. Love Posie

  7. That is gorgeous! I love the little ruffled cap sleeve detail.

  8. Gorgeous! Would make lovely nightgowns too in a light fabric I bet.

Oh no, not your brand new sewing machine? You must have been pretty grumpy about that! The dress is gorgeous! She’ll start to get very picky with all those new clothes… what a lucky girl!

  10. The dress is gorgeous, and really, what is the problem with a new dress every Sunday. A girl can’t expect to go to church is just any old thing everyone has seen before! :)

  11. She looks very lovely in her new dress. And a new dress every sunday? I guess every little girl would love that. In fact: I, as a grown up girl, would love that too 😉

  12. You need to let me in on your trick…I make Maddie clothes and she NEVER wants to wear them!!

  13. This is so lovely. A nice sunny day for a new summer dress. I get attitude about every dress I’ve made for Jemima these days *sigh*

  14. Love the vintage pattern. I think you chose the cutest option with the flutter sleeves. I’m not surprised Keira loves it.

  15. Another lovely dress, Miss Keira looks lovely ( and finn as well)

  16. It’s lovely to see “Originals” that are so cute – you will need a label displayed on the front at this rate of creating

  17. So very cute! And I love the pic with Finn in there!!!
