our kitchen renovation – I found our dining table

Well I know it’s been a bit quiet with kitchen renovation progress but the builders are back for 2 days today. Then the painters are in for 3 days afterwards so it’s a busy week here with lots of things going on. Next week the floor goes in and the following week the kitchen arrives. Then we need to wait for the caesarstone and the trades so we’re looking at finishing up mid-december. A long process but totally worth it in the end.

So I’m using that time to make sure that I choose the perfect cupboard handles, the perfect lights and of course the perfect dining table. And we found it. Retro daddy had wanted cheap cheap but when we went to the stores and looked at them the one we both agreed on and wanted was of course not cheap cheap. I finally got to visit Alfresco Emporium – the most beautiful homewares store in Sydney if you ask me. And there it was, a big round table….160cm in diameter. Here it is with a 100cm diameter

Now it’s not cheap. In fact it’s totally over budget. But it fits into the space perfectly and even when I tried to hunt down a less expensive one on the internet, retro daddy didn’t like the wood pattern on the table top. See what I’m working with here. And the more I researched round tables the more I realised it would suit the hamptons theme and our new space even more.

So we’ll be forgoing a big shiny TV and new couches for a while and hopefully enjoying Christmas seated around a big round table.

  1. Lovely table. We switched to a round table last year and it so much more practical and space saving since I needed to set up a desk/craft area in the dining room too. Ours is small though, only 100cm since our dining room is pretty small.

I have to say your renovation has really got the brain ticking over, we had thought about renovating but decided we’d rather move in a couple of years time…. but if yours only cost $50k then…. hmmm.

  2. Beautiful. Love the chandelier. Shiny TV vs. family table. Well you are certainly choosing the option that will always be connected to so many precious family memories.

  3. BUT it is PERFECT for your theme. If you don’t get it, you’d kick yourself for the next few years until you do buy it.

Good on you for choosing to treat yourself.

  4. Round tables are more friendly to sit around. Love them. Looking forward to the finished kitchen.

  5. Don’t you love it when you don’t have to convince them! You’ll be so much happier. And I bet that even with the more expensive table it’s cheaper than moving!

  6. Love it!

I would love a round table, but it just wouldn’t work in our space at all.

We built our house 5 years ago on a limited budget (we were 21 and I had just sold my first home and made a tidy profit) and in a rush since I was pregnant with my 1st. It has taken us 5 years to start figuring out how to use our space effectively. I still don’t love our house though, but it is growing on me…

I have big plans for our next house though! Hamptons Kitchen all the way!

  7. Love this round table so much….great choice. They are terrific no matter who is sitting at them because everyone feels apart of the experience. Enjoy.

  8. I love round tables and think that it so much more inclusive for all sitting at the table. This is gorgeous and I’m sure well worth the extra money :)

  9. It’s a fantastic choice I love it!!

Have you thought about the chairs ?

  10. Nice choice. Cannot wait to see the whole thing finished x

  11. I love round tables so much, and this one is especially gorgeous! I can’t wait to see it all come together.

  12. Ooo finishing up mid December! You will have yourselves a Merry little Christmas in that gorgeous new space Corrie :o)
Dining tables are a tough one. We have a huge round, solid wood one, which actually has the functionality to expand further… in a terrace!? Hmmm, I don’t think so! I’m always trying to downsize our furniture. I’d love a sleek rectangular dining setting, but can’t justify it right now. Can’t wait to see all these details together at the end of your reno xo

  13. It’s gorgeous Corrie! I can’t believe you’ll be done so soon — things are really moving along quickly there. (I know it seems like a long time to you, but in the big picture, it’s not toooo bad!) I can’t wait to see the finished product!
