our kitchen renovation – day 16

The table has arrived! And even if I had to wait all day at home for it, it was worth it. I just love walking out the back to look at it again. It’s big. 160cm in diameter and made from reclaimed elm wood. It is very rustic but I am already imagining it being set for a Christmas lunch with my best cutlery, glasses and white china. Maybe a touch of silver too. Even the little ones had to come in and have a look and admire it.

Since we went over ahem, cough cough the budget, the chairs will be coming from Ikea with matching stools to go at the kitchen island too. The upside is I don’t need to worry about the little ones damaging any chairs. That’s what I’m telling myself. The french bistro style chairs that I had previously envisaged will just have to wait. Because there really is no more money in the budget once everyone has been paid. But that’s ok, I feel that everything has been done and selected to suit the style that I wanted.

I’ll be back friday to show you the cabinets which are arriving. Sadly they don’t get installed until Monday and then it’s a 2 week for the lovely caesarstone benchstops to arrive but we’re making progress.

  1. Absolutely gorgeous!
I’m a big fan of the round table and this is one of the most fabulous I’ve ever seen.

I’m ooking forward to seeing your Christmas setting and all the other special occasions that will be held around this beauty.

    Happy day!

  2. Round tables are great for bringing people together. I’d love one in our house but our dining space is too skinny for a round table. It’s going to be lovely. And good idea to go the inexpensive chairs. Our upholstered antique chairs are getting slowly trashed by heavy school shoes and messy eaters. I desperately need a more durable alternative around our dining table.

  3. Absolutely perfect. Have you put something on the feet so that you don’t scratch your lovely floors when you want to wash under it? I imagine that the eclectic mix with chairs from IKEA wil still look great and increase the country air of your room. Cherrie

  4. Where on earth did you get such a beautiful table? It’s stunning
