our kitchen renovation – day 5

Now I’ve decided to count my renovation days as the days when work is actually being done as it will be easier to archive rather than telling you that on day 54 nothing happened! So day 5 is Saturday and the lovely electrician Drew was here doing all the power and lighting for the new space. I must admit that creating a new space for the kitchen does mean more work and more costs but it’s going to be so worth it. It was getting really exciting marking out where the island would go and benches would end and roughly where the pendants would hang.

I also love that all the people involved offer me advice when I give them a blank look or hadn’t thought too hard about something. Take lighting and downlights. I had wanted downlights all over but we had some serious problems with downlights in our old house so after hearing all the downlight options have decided on fluroscent downlights set in 3 banks of lighting so I can use some or all.

And of course my pendant lights will go in over my island. At last I’ve found a sydney stockist with reasonaly priced pendants to suit a hamptons style kitchen. I don’t want to be a slave to the hamptons theme (ok, maybe I’m just saying that) but I also want everything to be in keeping with the style. I found some parisian pendants in brushed nickel on Schots but they don’t deliver to Sydney.  But I just found a sydney stockist so 3 of these babies will be hopefully be hanging over my island.  I’m happy my late night researching came to fruitition

I decided to not go with the antler lights! Kind of not my style!
And that was day 5. The builders are back here today (monday) to do the ceilings and will finish up this week. I kind of missed the noise and action and people being around on Friday which sounds crazy. Maybe it’s nice having some adult company around the house and getting to chat to them – not too much mind you!

Comments

  1. I really dont see the problem with antler lights……..

  2. Hey Corrie – we got our kitchen pendants from Designer Lights in Sydney (we’re in rural Vic), our bathroom gooseneck light from Barn Electric (US), our wicker basket light shade over our dining table from Big Chair Living and our art deco light in the lounge room from Schot’s to go with our ornate ceiling. We also got our doors from Schot’s on sale – that place is addictive! If you are ever in Melbourne it’s a must – four levels of swoon worthy things…

  3. It’s coming along really nicely. I had to google antler lights and I have to say the don’t look very retromummy at all. Quietly horrible in my opinion. Shudder. I like your choice of lighting so much more after having seen them. The new ceiling will make the room seem almost finished in comparison to it’s present look. Cherrie

  4. Love the lights. We went with two flouro spots and downlights. too. I also got lights put under the overhead cupboards which are one of my favourite things. I wanted a large feature light over part of the bench but it just wasn’t going to work properly with our room shape. Love my power points in the appliance cupboard too, hides lots of things. Yay for the electrics being done. Getting there.

  5. the antler lights are hideous! Whose idea was that? I would also love to see the old kitchen like someone else asked but then I realised we won’t be seeing it for a while as you have probably crammed all the stuff from the bar and other cupboards in there so I expect it is rammed. You must show us sometime though!

  6. Okay Corrie – antler lights? I live in Canada and have deer in my backyard. I could get the genuine thing, but there is no way in heck that I would ever have antler lights in any room of my house. Can you imagine cleaning one of those things…. And… where would the poor deer do without them? (And I do know they do shed them…)

  7. I’m amazed at how much has happened already! Before you know it you’ll be cooking up a culinary delight in your new kitchen!!

  8. Love the lights you’ve picked!

  9. Ooo lighting maketh the room! I do love looking at lights and seeing the concepts that can be created with lights. Sounds like it’s all coming along nicely Corrie. And you’re already into week 2 of the reno, it’s flying by… well it is for me who doesn’t have to live amongst it of course! xo

  10. BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN
Why American men should boycott American women

    http://boycottamericanwomen.blogspot.com

I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don’t know how to cook or clean, don’t want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?

American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.

This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.

    BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN!
