Win $100 to spend at the Target Toy Sale

Sponsored by Nuffnang
Sometimes a sponsored post opportunity comes along that is such a perfect fit and which I feel very experienced to talk to you about. The Target Toy sale is one of those. Ever since Keira was a baby I’ve been doing the Target toy sale. The kids get the catalogue and spend hours flicking through it telling me what they want. And they carry that catalogue around everywhere with them so that it ends up being the tattiest thing around.
Keira’s first Christmas in Melbourne!

I love the Target Toy sale because there are lots of toys that you don’t see all year round and the prices are so low. I’ve saved up to 50% off toys in the past and now with 4 children to buy for that’s important. I also lay-by as paying $10 or $20 a fortnight means when Christmas comes around it’s one less expense to worry about.

Keira’s 2nd Christmas!

There is always such a wide range of toys available from outdoor swing sets and trampolines to wooden toys to books to dress up, Barbies, tea sets, Fisher Price baby toys and more. I always buy all the presents for the twin’s birthday and Christmas and especially love picking up the special toys that can be hard to find like the Barbie campervan and jet.

Since this will be my 5th Target toy sale I have my system down pat. Leave the children with someone else unless they are a baby. Get in there early with my trolley. Have my list. Get what I need and a few extra little presents for other children’s birthdays. Go straight to lay-by. And be prepared to wait. I won’t lie. You can spend a long time in that queue on the first day of the sale. Last year i couldn’t wait in the queue as I was hugely pregnant, so I bought all the toys. Big mistake. This backfired on me when Keira found all the presents in my cupboard and a spare bathroom we don’t use.

checking out keira's presents

I also get a little bit stressed out (don’t laugh at me) that I might miss out or that the queues will be crazy – pregnant with the twins was another year that wasn’t good for me.

happy finnie

But this year for the first time only you can lay-by online BEFORE the sale. So although the Target Toy sale doesn’t start until the 21st July (put that in your diaries mums) from the 29th June you can go online and reserve the toys you want. You then go in and pay your 10% deposit on the lay-by. Phew. I love it! That takes out half my stress before the sale. I love it so much that I’ve already done my lay-by and just need to go into the store. Easiest Target Toy Sale to date!

ohhh presents

Here is how it works:

1. Make yourself a coffee and make sure the kids are not in the room. I say this because otherwise I have 3 jumping monkeys screaming out behind me to click on that page or they want this and that.

2. Go to target.com.au

3. Search the toys available.

4. Register your details and create your toy list.

5. Select your nearest Target store as your lay by location

6. Submit your list and you’ll then receive an email confirmation including PDF files.

7. Print the email confirmation and take to your nominated store to activate your lay-by (10% deposit required) on or before Wednesday 3 August 2011.

How easy is that! Another advantage of doing this is that you can compare prices and toys to the other big toy sales that are always held before the Target sale. And guess what? Yes! You can win $100 to spend at the Target Toy sale which I know someone will put to good use. Just leave me a comment and tell me which toy you would most like to put on lay-by in the Target Toy Sale? This giveaway is for my Australian residents only and don’t forget to include your email address so I can email the winner. Full T&C can be found here.

  1. the Mr Potato heads, they have the pirate, cowboy and this year the bumblebee which one of my sons already has on his Santa list!

    cherylah@iprimus.com.au

  2. the vtech storio or the leap frog tag reading system. I haven’t decided between these two yet!

  3. Star wars lego, skate shoes, kinect xbox 360

  4. I am veteran of the Target Toy Sale. Even though my kids are now teens there are still plenty of products that interest them – especially the XBox and DS games.

  5. I’ll be buying Lego. My kids love it! :)

  6. My daughter wants everything from dolls to footballs. The first item on my list is the Lego Duplo XXL box.

  7. Oh Cheryl has stolen my idea, i mean gotten my fantastic idea out there first. Yay, we have the best collection of Potato Heads around, when they brought out Star Wars, say no more. I had Mr Potato as a child, when we got married we got a new one & we’d move him around the house, often holding notes (love notes of course, we were giddy in love). Now my youngest is 7, with 4 growing tweens in the house, we don’t really need more toys, BUT we still buy fun toys for us – THE PARENTS. Mr Potato Head & crew will always find room at our place.
As for the Target Toy Sale Layby Queue, you haven’t lived unless you’ve stood there breastfeeding without shame, anything to hold your place!! Oh add to that – with 3 toddlers, that was a fun day. Must say, a community does form around you, random mothers holding your children (they are the sensible ones who actioned babysitters or preschool days). Good luck, this new on line method is a dream, love Posie

  8. As my kids are getting a DS this year some games would be great!

  9. I’d buy lego. Lots of lego.

    Great tips Corrie!

  10. Oh there is an awesome playgym I want to get my kids with swings, monkey bars and a slide as well as a double story cubby house. The $100 would cover the 10% deposit. My kids love to play outside, so this would be perfect for them

  11. I think Thomas the tank engine will be filling my online shopping basket!

    littleharp@live.com.au

  12. It seems some of us are all after the same things…. LEGO!!!! Great idea to be able to do it online. Those layby lines kill me every time.

  13. We’ll be getting our little one a 3-1 trike.

  15. Oh, one can never have too much lego can they?

  16. The Dora laptop! My DD would love that

  17. Lego this year for my little boy (and his dad) they love to build things together.

  18. Other than handing the kids the toy catalogues to make collages out of I haven’t looked. I will admit it. This year isn’t a good one for us financially so we aren’t getting the kids much. So I haven’t looked so I don’t feel too guilty. So if we win this it would be pretty awesome, then we could get the kids a little more.

  19. No 1 for this year is a trampoline for our kids. I love a Target Toy Sale!

  20. Well, for the kidlets it is always about the Leapfrog and Tag items, have looked at a few of the larger lego kits recently too, but really don’t know if I want to be picking up all 1600 pieces every day! On my own wishlist I would like an ipad2! But might have to be a really good dirl to get this one x

  21. My mr 5 has just started to get interested in Lego and little miss 3 loves to play Barbies in her doll’s house so they are definitely on my ‘to buy’ list.

  22. My youngest will be 9 this Christmas, still a BIG believer! She wants Littlest Pet Shops as do my nieces, the boys love there Leggo and Mr and Mrs Potato Heads are popular here too, we have the Santa one and the Easter Bunny, all year round toy!

  23. Ooh $100 to spend at the target toys sale!! how fun! I would love to buy a bunch of things for my friends who are moving back to Ethiopia with 4, 2, ad 6 week old kids. the have to be lightweight, and versatile so duplo, a mr potato head (great for bath or dry play), a doll for the the big sister with some necessary accessories! and a few things for the baby to use as she grows – fisher price make some fabulous kids toys!
    janelockrey(at)gmail(dot)com

  24. I am absolutely going for the Leapster Explorer consoles and a couple of extra games as I can see the great potential for them to transform those long car trips we make from Melbourne to Sydney with our 4 year old twins. Fingers crossed!

  35. I have never done lay-bus before so I am not sure how it works. I usually just go in and buy it and then stash it somewhere!

I know Lego and Nerf guns are highly sought after in this household so that’s what they’d be getting.

  36. Definitely Lego here too – and given my son’s obsession with Cars, the Cars Lego is looking like the perfect gift for him this Christmas!

P.S We love the catalogues in this house too – the Target one even went to kinder for show and tell earlier this week!! Not sure who he gets the shopping-bug from… hmmm…!!

  37. My son just spent an afternoon circling his favourites in a toy catalogue! Brilliant activity for him that didn’t cost me a dime. Cough, cough, I mean, didn’t cost me a dime today! I love buying up early and would love to get the Cars 2 Finn Missile, he’s my son’s favourite Cars character now – despite the fact my son has not even seen the new movie!
    caitlinstaylor@yahoo.com

  58. Such cute pictures!!

I’d choose the Barbie 6v Vespa Scooter for my little girl.

The poor thing has a big brother, so she gets all of the hand me downs.

She’d be so pleased to have her own scooter – and make the boys jealous!!

  59. Thomas the tank engine double pack with the Knapford station and Turnstable which is awesome as Oliver loves trains at the moment! :)& with moving out and such things it’s a little hard to afford it.

  60. Lego, Lego, Lego. It is always a winner in our house, for both girls & boys, and being so expensive, I only buy it when it is on sale. I am particulary interested in the Lego games (especially Creationary). We have some of the smaller ones & they are heaps of fun to play as a family, as even the younger kids can understand the rules & play. This will be my 10th Target toy sale. Although I am not able to buy as much in advance as I used to, I still try to pick up a few things. Lego, books & games are our favourites & come 21st July (which is also my birthday!), I will be there to grab a bargain with the best of them.

  61. Oh My goodness this would have to be your best giveaway ever.
My kids are right into Playdough at the moment. We are all having so much fun making animals and shapes.
I wouldn’t buy $100 worth of it though, I would throw in some Lego too.
    beccaj74(at)yahoo(dot)com.au

mjslm at dodo dot com dot au

  64. That is an easy answer for us – we are Lego maniacs in this house. Including the biggest member of the household! Thanks for the opportunity to win, Corrie.

  65. I’d have to have the Fisher Price Kid Tough Camera – Eloise is filling up my iphone with pictures of her My Little Ponys!

    susan(at)myfoodobsession(dot)com

  74. Can’t believe it is that time again!! We thought we were past toy sales but it seems you never are especially when you introduce a new baby into the household. Thinking a trampoline for the older kids would be great and the 16 year old always likes the star wars lego. Mostly though I think we would like one of those bikes with the handles for the adults to push for bub, the red one mostly!!

  84. The airport play set would be perfect for my little one. His Dad is an avid pilot, and this set would remind our son of his Dad, as he works away from home for weeks on end.
