our little holiday – part 1

Well we survived our first big roadtrip as a family of 6! Thank goodness for DVD players, Tangled, Princess & the Frog, Toy Story and other long movies which kept little people quiet. Couch potato quiet. Oh and happy meals at McDonalds, parks to run around, lolly snakes, mummy’s rocky road and diet coke. It actually wasn’t as bad as I thought eventhough we were delayed by an hour and a half due to a problem with the car. The new car. The car that has only done 5,000kms. Thankfully there are no problems and we are enjoying a well deserved break in Echuca.
Today we froze our little butts off getting out and about. It’s cold here at the moment. Really cold. Like tonnes of layers and then my puffa vest cold. First stop, picking up Aunty Julie to hit Bendigo Woollen Mills. Mecca for knitting obsessed people who love their wool. And it did not fail to deliver. Oh boy. $200+ later it deserves a whole blog post on it’s own. I got back into the car and told retro daddy that Julie totally embarrassed me by going crazy in there. My attempt to distract retro daddy from the 3 huge bags of wool I had just snuck into the back seat!
Mummy! I never knew shopping for wool could be so much fun!
And it’s funny how just a couple of days break from the everyday can make such a difference. We are having a great little holiday and the little ones just love being away from home and spending time with their cousins. Tomorrow is the wedding and it’s going to be a long day with full mass (yes, full mass), reception in the church hall, a little rest for a while and then a family dinner in town. I’ll be back tomorrow night with photos as I’m dying to show you all the little ones outfits and some family photos as retro daddy’s family is not small.

  1. Oh I am sooo jealous at your bounty! I have been very tempted to splurge and make the boys new blankets from wool rather than they acrylic I usually use.
Glad you are having a great time!

  2. I bet you got heaps of yarn for $200. Laughing at you using Julie’s (embarrassing) shopping to distract Retro daddy.

  3. That yarn looks yummy! You are going to share pictures of your bounty, right? Oh, I’d love a big yarn shopping spree!

  4. Ooh, that purple and plum and that pink sneaking up the right hand side! I’m going to get out my sample chart and see if I can work out what they are!

We’re planning a driving trip to Melb in a couple of months, maybe we can go via BWM too.

  5. Wow that is some serious wool shopping there.

  6. I LOVE the pic of Elodie with her bags of loot! She is SO SO gorgeous! Sounds like you’re having a wonderful time. Little family getaways are so good for the soul. A change of scenery and new experiences make everyone feel revitalised. Enjoy the lovely big wedding :o)

  7. Oh dear heavens, cold where you are? How i wish for that time here in south Louisiana USA! LOL.
What beautiful colors you’ve chosen and I think your cutie pie has the prettiest rosy cheeks! Hugs…Loretta

  8. Ok, so I got to your first picture and nearly died of joy! Ahhh, yarn. Sweet delicious yarn! Thanks for the little happy pill! ;)Your little distraction tactic made me grin.
Hope you have a wonderful day at the wedding today, and that the kids make you oh-so-proud.

  13. Bendigo Wool – just LOVE it!!! Whenever I make the long trip to Geelong, I always end up with at least two bags of this wool (great little store in Belmont that stocks all Bendigo Wool lines).

  14. I’m not a knitter and I’m drooling over that wall of wool.

Enjoy your holiday and I hope the wedding goes ahead beautifully tomorrow.
