totally sick weekend

Yep my weekend was totally sick! As in the children throwing up sick not totally cool sick. Elodie decided to throw up just after I had put her in the car at lunch time yesterday. All over her new cardigan. On it’s first outing. Boo hoo. Quick change and I packed a towel for her and spare pair of clothes but little did I realise Finn’s asthma would play up on him and he would have a huge asthma attack and throw up everywhere. At the shops. All over himself. That towel came in handy but unfortunately Elodie’s change of clothes wasn’t going to help us. It was a long walk back to the car!
finnie aka sick boy
he zonked out for one long nap this afternoon!
Finn just got worse and worse and we’d get ready to take him to hospital and he’d fall asleep and stop coughing. At 1am things went downhill quickly so we rushed him to hospital where they first put him in the resus room (oh didn’t that freak me out when retro daddy texted me!) but then decided it was croup and moved him to the paed emergency ward. I think it’s a rite of passage for all parents – you never see an emergency room until you have children of your own and then you get to know it. Finn is our hospital boy. We know the drill well but it’s the worst we’ve ever seen him. He was home by 4ish and as expected has gotten worse before better but fingers crossed we see an improvement tomorrow.
at church
We were rostered on for church today so imagine how chipper retro daddy was with 2 hours sleep to read and host morning tea. I ended up making ‘cake a la betty crocker’ but we survived. I decided to keep the 3 littlies outside all of mass in the sunshine and they were happy enough and didn’t bother anyone. Tired, sick and cranky at church is not a good look. Later on some nice ladies cuddled elodie while I helped serve morning tea. Lucky she’s so cute and cuddly.

And so after a very light lunch (in case it came up again) everyone except mummy fell asleep on the couch. I wasn’t going to waste that time sleeping myself. So decided against baking a cake and felt a sudden urge to go and plug in the sewing machine. That poor machine of mine hadn’t been touched in ages and I really did have to plug it in at the wall and get reacquainted.
yes....sewing!
I decided it had to be a quick and satisfying project like little tissue holders. And it was a great excuse to cut into my new Denyse Schmidt fabric. So cute. Love this little project and churned out 10 in under an hour. These make the best little present. I  like to put cute ones in presents for keira’s little friends and give them to family and friends when  you need something little to say thank you!
little tissue holders
So it hasn’t been a particularly relaxing weekend and I’ve spared you the details on how much laundry has been done. Let’s hope it’s a quiet week. We need it!

Comments

  1. (((Hugs))) my little 1 woke up in the middle of the night last night and was sick all over my bed which meant a midnight sheet change and shower, so I know how you feel. I hope they get better soon poor little ones a hospital visit isnt nice for anyone, and Im sure no one would mind a ‘a la betty crocker’ cake after all that. You did very well to get that out really. Thinking of you all :)

  2. ((((HUGS))) Hope everyone is feeling better soon and you have an uneventful week ahead with the littlies :) Barb.

  3. You poor thing – it sounds scary! You must be so tired. I hope next week is less eventful with fewer costume changes. x

  4. Bummer about all the sick. We’re a croup household too, so I know what it’s like. Fingers crossed tonight is non-eventful and even a bit relaxing for everyone! Have a great week!

  5. You poor thing! Sounds like a pretty yucky weekend. Hope everyone is feeling better xxx

  6. No good Corrie, I hate those sort of weekends, and doesn’t it always happen on a weekend! It does here when there are no clinics open. Hope everyone on the mend now. xx

  7. OM goodness what a weekend you have had. Fingers crossed all your little ones get well quickly.

  8. sounds awful, and unfortunately I know just how it feels! My last time to the emergency room with asthma was with daughter #2 on the night of my 40th birthday… (was quickly calculating when my last glass of wine was!), then got pulled over at 3am for RBT, and had to explain that yes, my licence SAYS its expired, but the new one was “in the post”! Gotta love being a parent sometimes!
Hope everyone is feeling better very soon! xx

  9. Oh Corrie!!
What a horror time you’ve had.
Here’s hoping your little ones have a healthy and happy time ahead of them so that Retro Daddy can get a bit more sleep and you can relax and spend a bit more quality time with the sewing machine.
    xx

  10. You are a great mum Corrie, hang in there, it does get better. Hospital visits are not good in the middle of the night. Amazing just how quick they all bounce back though. Love the tissue holders too.

  11. Far out – busy/stressful times. Poor Finn!
We have had sicks today, while driving. Bless our girl who both times managed to use the quickly provided nappy plastic bag thingie. Heres to quick recoveries for all little ones xx

  12. You need some looking after Corrie! Poor Retrodaddy :( Poor Finnie :( Poor bubba Elodie :( I know Keira was fine, she had a butterfly face ;). 17. Poor Elodie. Poor Finn. Poor Retro Daddy with the lack of sleep and poor you! I’ve done the Emergency room thing when my 5 week old baby came down with whooping cough – that was NOT FUN! Hugs, S
