de-stressing

When your list of things to do is bigger than you are. When the twins have screamed and pulled at your jeans and stretched your cardigan out of shape at school pick up for a good 15 minutes. When it takes one hour to get 4 little people to sleep. When you burn half a tray of cookies while you were feeding the baby.

When it’s 10.34pm and you are still washing and drying clothes. When you didn’t get time to eat lunch that day. When you haven’t showered in 48 hours (and counting). When your husband is interstate for half the week.

Well, there is nothing left to do but forget about the ‘stuff’ for a night and get your craft on. For me it was hexagons with Real Housewives catfights, oops I mean reunion specials, on in the background. Flower tally so far – 14 big ones and 4 little ones.

And it must have made a difference because today I’ve got vegetable curry in the slow cooker, made my first ever lokshen kugel and about to do some cleaning. I think it’s another night of hexagons tonight for me.

Comments

  1. They are looking really pretty. I’ve been doing the odd hexi flower in front of the fire at night too.

  2. Good for you! I always sleep better after a spot of crafting too (and it is actually refreshing to hear that you too have days like that LOL)
Can’t wait to see the finished hexie quilt!

  3. Corrie, I can empathise with you about being put through the ringer by the littlies :) Just a quick question, your photos are always so lovely, what camera model and lens do you use? Many thanks :)

  4. I completely agree! I have been solo parenting for 5 months and 2 weeks now (but who is counting! ha) with hubby overseas, and my crafting at night is THE ONLY THING that keeps me sane. 8 weeks until we are a family again, then I can collapse in a corner.
I hope Retrodaddy is home soon.
Lovely hexies too, they look delicious!

  5. You’re amazing Corrie. Very inspired by your posts, this one in particular. It’s never easy doing it on your own while hubby’s away or works long hours… and I’ve only got two little ones turning my world upside down.
    Gorgeous hexagons too! :o)

  6. I had a bit of a mini stress last night (not nearly as bad as yours) so headed into the sewing room, had a cry at the ironing board, and then it all went away! I think that is one of the reasons I love crafting so much!

  7. The hexagons are looking great! Not only are they gorgeous but therapeutic too :) Well done for getting on those things done with Retrodaddy interstate :)

  8. The hexagons look great! And only an hour to get 4 to sleep I’d say that was pretty good going!! Itcan take me that long to get mine to sleep and a) there’s only 2 of them and b) they are much older than yours!!!

  9. PRECIOSOS.BESOS

  10. You are amazing! When do you sleep, if at all? The hexagons are looking great!

  11. Those hexes are definitely a stress buster! Good for you!

  12. Your amazing! They look fantastic x

  13. I am loving your theory …now to convince my family of it.

  14. I so enjoy watching all the Housewives catfights it’s such a laugh! Don’t forget there’ll be some new Housewives starting in a few weeks….time for more pretty hexagons!

  15. I love hullabaloo fabric! Waiting for the post man to deliver my jelly roll … oh what fabric fun will be had piercing it! Can’t wait to see your hexagons in a fabulous quilt top!

  16. so charming …

  17. It must be the cold weather, I’m doing hexies too!

  18. No doubt about it – craft is the best therapy. I’m doing same tonight – not with hexagons, it’s octagons for me.

  19. The hexagons are looking lovely. Mummies are definitely all the better for a de-stress. I’d better get on with mine!

  20. Your hexi flowers are gorgeous! My template & sewline glue pen finally arrived in the mail so I’m all set to join in on the ‘craze’, lol. Have been hanging out to do some – learning and then making granny squares has kept my sanity this last week, lol.
And I know what you mean with all the craziness – and I only have one!

  21. Glad the crafting got you back on track Corrie, those hexies are looking gorgeous.

I’m playing with some Liberty tonight to soothe the soul!

  22. It’s good to escape to a saner world – one where crafts rule! Yeh!

  23. I was wondering why on earth you, a Catholic girl, were making kugel and then I remembered that you bought the Monday Morning Cooking Club cookbook. LOL Did you like it? It always reminds me of my mom, and my friend, Ed. He loves it (and he’s not Jewish). :)

    Your hexies are looking amazing!

  24. You are my endlessly inspiring friend, Corrie. How you manage to do the single parent gig for half the week with 4 littlies is just extraordinary. Take a bow, Lovely. J x
