dance party for mummies

Every wednesday lunchtime I have a hot date. Yes, really I do. But don’t worry, retro daddy doesn’t mind. It’s Zumba at 12.30 with my favourite teacher at the gym. If you haven’t tried zumba yet then you need to get your little butt off to a class and it’s so popular you can find them anywhere and everywhere these days.

yes we do this song and these moves each week! l-o-v-e it!

I have so much fun I need to remind myself that a) I’m at a gym and b) that I’m exercising. I sometimes think I’m at a nightclub and let me tell you the last time I was in a nightclub……………………………insert the sound of crickets…………………..ummmmm I’ll get back to you on that. Can’t remember. But don’t worry the dance party ends as soon as I walk into the creche and collect my three children.

Now apparently the next craze oops I mean aerobics class coming our way is called power or body jump or as our brazilian nanny (an aerobics instructor from Brazil) tells me ‘ body joooomp’. This one scares me a little as I know where I’ll end up…..yep right off the front of the trampoline. And I’m guessing there is a whole lot of wobbling going on with that jumping. Love to know your favourite gym class at the moment…………….

  1. Oh this is great!! I’ve always wanted to try zumba – you’ve inspired me to give it a try :-)

  2. I haven’t been game enough to try zumba yet – am worried the old pelvic floor may not be up to the challenge…

  3. I love Zumba too! Its the most fun Ive ever had actually doing some exercise (mainly because it doesnt really feel like exercise which has to be a bonus!)

  4. Zumba es genial¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡besos

  5. Yay for Zumba, so much fun, my instructor is South American & boy can she move for a totally funky grandmother!! Love Posie

  6. As you know, I hate zumba! Cardio boxing for me :) Although I generally prefer to be outdoors than in the gym.

  7. My pelvic floor struggled with zumba too!

  8. Right …. am off to look up my nearest Zumba class right now – Thankyou!

  9. I haven’t had a gym membership since I was pregnant with my first son – 8 years ago… but have consistently worked out since then, and after having 3 children… my latest vice is BodyRock.tv and have to say, I find it more motivating than when I was at the gym. I’ve become more stronger and defined in the 2 months that I have been ADDICTED to it! LOVE IT!!!!! Zumba rocks too 😉

  10. Shoot! I can’t get that video to load right now — will have to try again later. Zumba is very big here too. Our fitness center at work started some really fun classes at the beginning of the year — I’m torn between Zumba and Step Aerobics — they’ve both been really fun. And one day, they substituted Turbo Kick for Zumba and it was hysterical — the room was basically divided — the young “kids” on one side and us old farts on the other. At one point I remember looking up to see that all the old farts were having trouble keeping up with the beat — we could do the move (drop to floor, thrust legs out in push up position, then stand back up again, repeat) we just couldn’t do it fast enough. They need to play the music in slo mo LOL!!!

  11. I copy the Wiggles dance moves – that’s enough for me at the moment! And no childcare required – my 2 year old and I have a wonderful time daggy dancing…
Zumba does look like great fun though.

  12. I’m such an un-co there is no way that I can even think about doing a Zumba class!! Love the idea of it though. My fav is Bikram Yoga and good old walking.

  13. I don’t think that “Body joomp” and post children pelvic floor could ever be friends?!?!?

  14. don’t do gyms but heard of zumba and looks nothing like I imagined. Looks like a fun thing to try maybe one day ……
