what a day

I think God is working overtime for me because I have been praying my little heart out here. On Sunday I was so saddened to hear that another mummy blogger had a husband in intensive care who needed our prayers. I don’t know Lori but couldn’t get her and her little children out of my mind. I prayed for a full recovery and for strength for Lori.  Sadly, she lost her husband yesterday. I cannot even begin to imagine the loss of your beloved husband at such a young age (he was just 30), the financial worry about raising a family on your own and just how you will get on with day to day life. Oh I have a very heavy heart when I think about Lori and what she is going through.

and then there are the queensland floods. Watching the video footage is just so scary. Being a mummy I think what would I do if I had to leave my house and take all the children with me, with a new baby. What if we lost everything and had nothing left but the clothes we were wearing. So when I received an email from Toni about raising money for the floods through auctions I said yes without even thinking about it. I didn’t need to think. And so later this week I will make a few bundles of things from my store to auction off. I will donate all the money raised including the cost of postage to the QLD flood appeal. A small gesture and a way I can give with what I have here. I do hope that you will get behind this to help out our fellow Australians. And if you would like to participate in the auctions yourself then you can find out more from Toni’s blog and grab her button. If you would rather donate directly then you can go and do that here.

And to some of my readers and customers who I know have been affected by these floods or are in the path of the water, please take care and look after yourselves. We are thinking of you.

  1. Corrie, your post has brought tears to my eyes, it feels like an emotional rollercoaster today.
I have also being following Lori’s devastating loss. Unimaginable.
And here on the outskirts of Brisbane, I am starting to get very worried, watching the devastation is heartbreaking.
    Praying my heart out too.
Love the idea of helping out with craft fundraising… wonder what I can do before I move back to NZ in 2 weeks?

  2. Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog. Well done for helping out and joining Toni in hopefully raising lots of money. I’m not crafty AT all, the only thing I can really do is take an ok photo, but I’ll definitely be bidding on some things.

  3. I have been watching the news here in the states about the floods down there in Queensland. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone down there! Please keep us informed on what we can do to help!

  4. That is so sad, Corrie. I have been saddened by the death of a forum administrator on a forum I go to. Very sudden and she was young. Complications of the ‘flu so get your shots. It took 4 hours from her feeling bad till her death in the hospital ER where she worked.

I have a friend in Dalby. She’s safe but her yard has been inundated several time and she now has elderly neighbours with her.

  5. What terribly sad news about the death of one so young, definitely makes for a heavy heart.

The flooding is just devastating, have been praying for the safety of each and every person affected.

Will be doing all that we can to contribute.

    xx

  6. It’s absolute chaos here in QLD. I have family in Toowoomba but they luckily live on higher ground and are safe. I live about 30 mins away from the Brisbane CBD and we are supposed to get slammed tonight. Where I live, we should be OK…. but you never know. My hubby’s office is in the line of destruction so is already planning on NOT going to work tomorrow. I guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings…..

The biggest impact this will have is on ALL Australian’s though. All of our produce is being completely wiped out in QLD. So there will be no local fresh produce for probably a good year. Would be wise to stock up on frozen and canned fruit and vegies because their prices will no doubt sky rocket also.

  7. How sad that your friend’s husband died so young. My thoughts and prayers are with her. How can we make donations to her?

These floods are terrible. I am not in danger but many of my students and work collegues live in the Lockyer Valley. I’m very concerned for them.

  8. Such sad news Corrie.
I am ging to crochet up some sandwich sets and see what else I can manage by the end of the week.

  9. It’s just so devasting! Our prayers have been constant today. Thanks for the heads-up about the appeal.

  10. Reading this has brought tears to my eyes. My parents are in Bundaberg, but they are fine. I was just looking at the flood through Toowoomba. I also feel for the lady who lost her husband. Just devastating.

  11. Thankyou so much for linking to Lori’s blog. I actually know her from playgroup and knew some of the story from our church prayer list, but we’d never swapped contact details and I had no idea she was a blogger (you know what it’s like – you just talk about the kids). I’ve now been able to send her an email with all my contact details and an offer of help/support. Thanks.

  12. Well i’m doing the Flood Appeal Charity for sure, as my husband just left for Brisbane where he lives (yes he went) & feel pretty helpless down here in Canberra. My God Mother & her husband have lost all the vehicles & sheds for her their Brisbane fencing business, it’s pretty horrific, but they are safe & their home is flood free. Sitting, waiting, sewing & hoping, love Posie

  13. Thanks for caring and praying Corrie! Your response is wonderful and heartening. May God bless you as you bless others!

  14. It’s a pitty to hear something like that.. I will also pray for her and the family. Well done Retromummy!

  15. Thanks for allerting me to pray and continue to pray… such sad news for Lori..
    Hugs Dawn x x
