endings and beginnings

I know I’m supposed to be slowing down and taking it easy but it’s never a dull moment here. Firstly, I was told the sad news this week that Notebook the lovely magazine is closing. You can read a bit more about that here. My first thought was for all of the gorgeous people who worked there and worked so hard. Of course that means the magazine’s Craft Room closes too. So rather than passing the management on as planned this week I’m finalising everything and hoping that it’s all squared off before baby arrives. The last issue will be the November issue which will be out later this month and I’ll be sure to treasure it. I’ve learnt so much this year on the job and it’s been a real honour to work for them!

And then on the home front, retro daddy leaves his job of 6 years next week to start a new job. It’s not something you normally do – leave your job just before baby number 4 arrives. But I’m so proud of him as it’s that big next step we’ve been waiting for. I think I’ve told him 100 times how proud I am of him and I still am. Let’s not pretend that raising a family of 6 in Sydney is cheap – no wait, just raising a family full stop. It does involve travel interstate every week but I think I can manage……….

So new job for retro daddy, new baby at home for retro mummy……..it’s all happening here. Oh and I joined twitter too! You’ll find me as retromummy, I figure I can keep up with the world while I’m in hospital for 6 days without my precious laptop!

  1. So disappointed that Notebook is finishing. Only womans mag I read :(

Congratulations to retrodaddy!! Wonderful news! You guys will sure have a lot to settle into. I’m sure you will fly though it with your usual enthusiasm and creative flair :) xox

  2. Congratulations Corrie on all your big changes. Scary but exciting at the same time and I am sure you will all flourish with your new babies

  3. That is a real shame about Notebook, I had only just discovered it through your blog, it wasn’t one that I had bought previously – but had really enjoyed it lately.

Exciting times for RD! Steve changed jobs just before we had Cheriese as well, which was scary but exciting too – we were also in the middle of our house extension

  4. I remember when Andrew wanted to leave his very comfortable job because he was bored and I was so stressed (and we were only a family 0f 4 then) but then he found the perfect job and he still loves it and is so much happier. I think change is good! So sorry about Notebook, so sad.

  5. A sad end to a great Magazine. What will happen to your patterns on there – sill the web page stay open or should I go and print them off now???

Good luck for ou all next week and for Retro Daddy in his new job.

I am on twitter – but dont remember my password and never really got the hang of it.

  6. Oh Corrie, what a shame that Notebook is finished up!! I enjoyed that mag – and was lucky enough to get a photo of me and my son in one copy when i sent them a photo of some of my crafty things I had made – so i will cherish it! Good news about retro daddy! My husband quit his job when our second baby was 3 months old to start his own business – tough times, but we managed and now it’s all going well! Good luck to you all xx

  7. I’m sad about Notebook. A lovely mag. Good luck with all your ‘new’ stuff.

  8. Oh i’ll miss you while you’re in hospital, i should just jolly well visit you, as i don’t do Twitter or Facebook!! Is there a reason you can’t take your laptop into hospital?? I did when i had my 4th & was running a home business. But i also loathe using a mobile phone, so i’d rather email pictures of new babies.
So sorry we didn’t catch up this weekend either, back in Canberra now, yawn, exhausting weekend & my 4 really wanted to hang out with your guys!! Next time!! Hopefully with better weather as the Sydney rain had us at a movie instead of the beach. Love Posie

  9. Oh forgot to say Good Luck & Congratulations to RetroDaddy. It’s always a big deal changing jobs with the responsibility of a family behind you & to consider, we stay at home mummies aren’t cheap!! My husband is about to do it after 15 years & his job comes with a low rent house, yikes . . . raising a family of 6 & we’re starting high school, fees & all. Gulp. Also overseas travel – we need to stick together honey, love Posie

  10. Notebook is closing?!! Nooooooooooo

  11. Oh no – not Notebook. A quality magazine so sad to see it go.

Good luck with all the lifestyle changes. I am sure you and the babies will be fine.

  12. Congratulations to RetroDaddy! And good luck to both of you with the new baby — such a very exciting month at the RetroHouse!

  13. Oh no!
    Huge congrats to Retrodaddy.
Can’t wait to hear about the new retrogirl :-)

  14. I only just discovered Notebook when you were in it. I am really sorry that it is no longer being published. It was great.

Congrats to Retrodaddy, never a dull moment in the Retohouse.

  15. Aww that’s sad, I love that magazine….

  16. Best wishes Corrie on the impending childbirth!!!!

    Nicole

  17. Oh no! I cant believe it.. I always look forward to the day Notebook comes out.. Very sad to see such a good mag end..

Good luck with all the new adventures!

  18. Very disappointed that Notebook is disappearing. It’s my favourite magazine. I love the way that craft and homemaking is strongly represented and admired. Will there be anything to replace it’s style?
