Sushi uncut

I haven’t made sushi in years!!! But my little darlings almost send me broke with the amount of sushi they eat each week so I thought I’d give it a go and I’ve got to say….a winner!

avocado sushi

All you need are nori sheets, some avocado or fillings, rice (I just used medium grain which I had in the pantry), some sushi rice reasoning and a mat which I already had floating around. The great thing is that everything came from the supermarket so you have no excuses to not make your own! Everyone ate it all up and there was a teeny bit of rice left which I put in some inari wrappers (I get mine at tokyo mart in northbridge, the best japanese supermarket in town!!!).

Now most of my lovely readers know that I put nice pretty pictures on my blog…but today I thought I’d show you the behind the scenes! No last minute hair tidying, no posing and a flash going off in the window! I just was laughing so much as I was taking these thinking no way are these making it to my blog….

kids go wild

but since it’s crazy here most of the time and it’s been a crazy week….why not share…..a taste of life at my house!

unscripted!

and yes, guess who had the joy of cleaning up afterwards!!! But I hope to hear about your sushi experiences soon, it’s just so easy….

  1. The sushi looks great Corrie, although I must admit I have never eaten it before. What does the sushi flavouring taste like if I can ask as I might like to try it out too. Great to see some live action shots of your kids too!

  2. sue it just takes like vinegar! it’s also called sushi rice vinegar I think!!!!!

  3. Love the photos! That last one made us laugh. Sticky rice to clean up is so much fun.

Actually I had sushi for lunch during the Nanny McPhee movie today. It was smuggled in and it was delish.

I make my own sushi and it’s pretty good too. I usually make it with tinned salmon or capsicum in the middle.

  4. Looks wonderful Corrie! You are a star to keep going after the week you sound like you’ve had. Hope fully the take-away fairy brings something yummy home for tea (he’s not telepathic so send him a text message….now!) You deserve a night (or week) off! :)

  5. That last picture is the best sales pitch I’ve seen for sushi ever — too cute!

  6. Looks great Corrie! You would love the sushezi sushi maker from Robin’s Kitchen. Makes it so simple, I make it about twice a week now for DS’ school lunchbox.

  7. I’m an adventurous cook. I’ll try anything. But sushi always seemed beyond me, which is crazy. Although I want to aim for the raw fish kind – and I would except it always feels wrong to buy and prepare raw fish in a town that’s far from the ocean…..

  8. Yum..I might have to give it a go. I have always put sushi in the “too hard” basket. Love the crazy pics of your kids

  9. Wow, that sushi looks brilliant! I will have to give it a try myself…my ‘big’ darlings are sending me broke with the amount they now eat!!!

  10. I make sushi every week for the kids to take for school lunches. And I love those inari wraps. I would love to find a good honey syrup recipe to go with it though. That’s my favourite bit!!

  11. Goodness, Finn looks like a vacuum cleaner. Tillie is a doll, so lady like all the time. Keira, well she’s the boss of everyone isn’t she, love her style!!
I make my own sushi for the same reason – wait until you have that 4th baby, you’ll use the entire pack of 10 nori sheets in no time. I make my own rice seasoning too, so much nicer & cheaper than the ready made, honestly, pop it in the microwave, so easy!! Love Posie

  12. They look Cute – i mean the children!

  13. I love sushi. It looks like Finn does too!

  14. Hahahaha! Love the pictures!
Think we will give sushi a go. Girls are old enough to roll their own. So long as they dont work out it’s seaweed lol!
This week we had fried rice Bento box style. Used little cookie cutters to make shapes. Kids loved it lol! xox

  15. babies climbing on the table, deconstructed sushi everywhere – seems uncannily familiar to me!

  16. We used to make sushi quite regularly. I have everything floating around too. We usually have carrots, cucumber plus whatever is around. And we always have wasabi too. Yum!

  17. Sushi for toddlers is just fabulous! Mr 2 and 3/4 helped me make some for his dinner last night. He had chicken and avocado but he also loves smoked salmon with avocado. I’m a big fan of sushi and it’s fun to make at home and so much easier than I thought it would be, even with a toddler ‘helping’!

  18. We made sushi for the first time last weekend. I had never tried it..but I’ll be making it again real soon…it was delicious!
