pre-school, brown owls and brownies

boy we’ve been busy here this week with keira starting pre-school two days a week…I won’t begin to tell you how hard it is to find 3 year old pre-school or even a place that will take us when we’re not on their huger than huge waiting list. But we did it and keira is loving it….

so much so that on her first day she walked in, left me at the door, pulled up a chair and started playing barbies and talking to everyone…thats my girl. I’ll admit the other kids were just staring at her and she did all the talking….I blame myself of course.

Last night, I taught some super nice girls how to crochet and am hoping they all went home to practice!!! Gosh everyone was so sweet!

I made my world famous brownies and thought I’d share the recipe again…..I know this recipe off by heart since I write it out all the time. I’ve perfected this recipe over the years so get out your pens…you’ll make lots of new friends with my brownies.

Corrie’s Best Ever Brownies
200g dark chocolate
150g butter
2 eggs
1 cup caster sugar
3/4 cup self raising flour

melt butter and chocolate, pour into new bowl and mix in eggs, sugar and flour stirring after each addition. Pour into lined square tin and bake for 25-30 minutes in 190 degree oven. Leave to cool 5 minutes in tin then cut and enjoy. You can add nuts if you like (walnuts or pecans are the best!). This is all thats left from yesterday’s batch…..

Binding is almost done on the quilt, ripples are coming along slowly, new fabrics arrived in the post (Heather’s jellybean fabric makes the best ever quilt binding so I stocked up), my throat and head hurt as the cold weather hits me hard and I think today I’ll try to stay indoors and finish the quilt while my clothes dryer continues to work overtime….

  1. What a “delicious” post! A little cutie, gorgeous fabric, getting together with creative souls and those brownies -yum!

  2. Yummo those brownies look absolutely delish! Your brown owls night looks like so much fun too.

  3. She sounds just like my little sister when we took her to day-care for the first time. We laugh about it now, because she says she couldn’t even imagine not being nervous as an adult now. Children are awesome!

My friend’s daughter who recently joined a day-care was traumatized. But she is slowly adjusting and loving it.

  4. I wish you could come to my house to teach me to crochet.

I agree the Heather Bailey fabrics are perfect bindings.

  5. Okay jealousy time here.
1 – I missed out on brown owls this year.
2 – I adore brownies and you are making me hungry and
3 – I am on a fabric ban and I LOVE those HB fabrics!

But I love you for sharing your recipe and being a kind soul spreading the crochet love.

  6. Keira is just gorgeous and how wonderful that she is able to adjust herself to social situations like that. My daughter is always the shy one unless they are younger, and I ask her to look after them and then she is fine. I love those fabrics to, how beautiful.

  7. Good on you for spreading the crochet love & the brownies look amazing.

  8. YUM! to the fabric and the brownies.

Looks like you had a blast at Owls, we’re doing crochet at our next meet too. Your little girl is such a cutie!!

  9. Beautiful! I really want to get some of those new Heather Bailey fabrics. Hopefully the kids will be well enough on the weekend for me to get out to our lqs. Crochet night looks like fun! Did you drive to Canberra for that?

  10. That’s wonderful for Keira, the kinder experience is so precious and unfortunately not all kiddies can get it. So kudos for not giving up in the search for one.

Corrie, I have been meaning to ask, can you tell me some great places to get fabric that doesn’t cost a gazillion dollars but are really groovy. Lincraft and Spotlight don’t really rock my world these days!
Your snaps of stashes always have such great patterns!
    Jealous!

  11. Hi Thanks for the comment that you gave me on “the last piece” blog. I made the quilt and I’m very happy with it.

  12. I glad you were able to get Keira into kinder. We have the opposite problem here…….not enough kids, they are only running two sessions instead of three this year. Mmmm chocolate brownies, my favourite but I’m trying to be good, as hard as it is at Easter time.

  13. Yay for K starting preschool. Amelia is loving it too – only wish that I could get another day (she only attends one day a week) And look at you – only been crocheting a few months and here you are teaching a room full of ladies.

  14. Thanks Corrie for having the patience to teach us the other night! I didn’t get to try your brownies, but I’ll definitely try making them – thanks for the recipe.
Sounds like you’re a bit of a supermum with so much going on – I’m in awe of all you do.
